Health Department Clarifies That Pan Masala Will Not Be Banned As It Does Not Contain Tobacco Or Nicotine : Pan Masala will not be banned . The Health Department has clarified. It does not contain tobacco or nicotine, so there will be no ban. The Health Department Secretary has written a letter to the Finance Department informing about this. The government has implemented a new law on January 21, amending the old law of 2013 regarding the ban on tobacco. The new law prohibits the preparation, sale and storage of pan masala, jarda.

Tobacco consumption in Odisha is twice the national average. Consumption of tobacco, jharda, khaini, pan masala has a huge impact on oral health. Along with oral cancer, there is a possibility of esophageal, stomach, pancreatic, throat and renal cancer. Therefore, the government has ordered strict implementation of the Tobacco Prohibition Act. Gutkha and tobacco are being seized by the police and administration in various places in the state.
