NCP To Propose Sunetra As Maharashtra Deputy CM : After the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar in a plane crash, a power struggle has started within the party. A source has revealed that the party is considering proposing the name of Ajit’s wife Sunetra Pawar for the post of Deputy Chief Minister. Sunetra is currently a Rajya Sabha member. Senior leader and Maharashtra FDA Minister Narhari Zirwal said that the people want Sunetra to be brought into the state cabinet. Senior NCP leaders Praful Patel, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dhananjay Munde and Sunil Tatkare met Sunetra for internal consultations. Some sources have said that Sunetra may contest the elections from Ajit’s seat.
There is a proposal to make Sunetra the Deputy Chief Minister. NCP leaders are expected to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss this. Working President Praful Patel is likely to hold the party’s helm for now. It is said that discussions may be held on a possible merger of NCP with NCP (SP). It is worth noting that Ajit Pawar and four others died in a plane crash in Baramati, Bune district, last Wednesday. In July 2023, Ajit joined the then Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government, resulting in the NCP, founded by his grandfather Sharad Pawar, splitting into two.
