As he formally stepped into politics by joining Janata Dal (United) (JDU) on Sunday, Nishant once again expressed deep admiration for his father’s integrity and public life.

“I am proud of my father,” Nishant said, emphasizing that the quality he admires most in Nitish Kumar is his unwavering honesty. According to him, his father has always followed the path of integrity in both public and personal life.

“As a son, I have seen him very closely as a leader,” Nishant said. “Whether in political life or social life, I have always seen him stand firmly for honesty. That is why I respect him deeply.”

Unlike his father, Nishant is known for his deeply spiritual temperament. While Nitish Kumar performs religious rituals only on special occasions, Nishant often visits the famous Mahavir Mandir near Patna Junction to offer prayers. A trained software engineer by profession, Nishant spends much of his time reading religious texts and philosophical literature. The Bhagavad Gita is among the scriptures he frequently reads.

Before entering politics, Nishant largely stayed away from public life. His free time was spent reading books, listening to devotional music, and exploring philosophy. His reading interests were wide-ranging. Along with religious texts, he explored ideas from socialism, the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and the teachings of spiritual thinker Osho.

Nishant’s entry into politics has also been accompanied by a major political development. Nitish Kumar reportedly decided to step down from the Chief Minister’s post and move to the Rajya Sabha, a decision many observers see as a significant personal sacrifice. Supporters view it as a reflection of the deep affection between father and son. In Bihar’s highly competitive political landscape, such a transition is rare.
