Mobile Internet To Become Expensive
Mobile Internet To Become Expensive : India is one of those countries where mobile data is very cheap. Data usage in the country is increasing rapidly due to cheap internet. Data usage has increased especially due to video streaming, social media, online gaming and watching reels. But mobile internet usage may become even more expensive in the future. In India, you may have to pay more to use mobile internet in the future. The central government is considering the option of imposing a new tax on mobile data usage.
According to a national media report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has been asked to conduct a study in this regard. Whether it is possible to impose a tax on mobile data usage and if so, what the model will be will be decided in this study.
According to the report, the issue was raised in a review meeting related to the telecom sector. The DoT has been asked to study whether a tax can be imposed on mobile data usage.
According to reports, the option being considered by the government is to levy a tax of Rs 1 per GB of data. If this is implemented, this additional charge will be added to the amount a user uses when using mobile data.
In addition, if a tax of Rs 1 is imposed on every GB of data, it is estimated that the government can collect a revenue of around Rs 22,900 crore every year. However, this is only a proposal and no final decision has been taken on it yet.
Another important thing is that 18% GST is still being imposed on mobile recharges and postpaid bills. This means that users are already paying tax on telecom services. If a separate tax is imposed on data usage in the future, then it will be an additional charge in addition to the existing tax.
