The central government is running several scholarship schemes for engineering students. Know how to apply.

The central government and various government institutions are running many scholarship schemes to help the financially weaker and meritorious students. Under these schemes, students are given financial assistance ranging from 10 thousand to 50 thousand rupees every year.
Most of the government scholarships can be done through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). It is an online platform where students can apply for various scholarship schemes as per their eligibility.
AICTE Pragati Scholarship: AICTE’s Pragati Scholarship Scheme is very popular for female students pursuing engineering and technical education. The objective of this scheme is to encourage girls for technical education. Under this, financial assistance of up to 50 thousand rupees is provided every year to female students enrolled in the first year of technical degree or diploma course. This amount helps cover tuition fees, books and other educational needs.
Empowered Scholarship Scheme: The AICTE-run Abilities Scholarship Scheme is specifically for students with disabilities. Students whose disability is 40 percent or more can avail the benefit of this scheme. Under the scheme, students are given assistance up to 50 thousand rupees per year. This amount can be used for tuition fees, study materials and other necessary expenses.

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme: Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS) has been launched for the meritorious students of the country. Students who have secured 80 percentile or above in 12th standard can apply under this scheme. Scholarships ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 are given annually through this scheme to students studying in various undergraduate courses including engineering.
Post Matric Scholarship: The government also conducts Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Minority Communities. The objective of this scheme is to encourage economically weaker students for higher education. Under this, assistance is provided to students in fees and other educational expenses.
In order to avail the government scholarship, the students must first do One-Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal. Aadhaar card is required for this. After registration, students can log in to the portal and check the information about the schemes available according to their eligibility.
