PM Modi conferred with Indonesia’s highest honour ‘Bitang Adipurna’: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Indonesia’s highest civilian honour ‘Bitang Adipurna’ on Tuesday. President Prabowo Subianto honoured Modi on his two- day visit to the Southeast Asian Nation.
Modi arrived in Indonesia on Monday on the first leg of his three-nation tour, aimed at further strengthening India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and its commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. He will also visit Australia and New Zealand to reinforce India’s Act East Policy.
While addressing the joint press conference, PM Modi said, ‘This morning, I was conferred Indonesia’s highest honour with great affection and respect. This honour belongs to the crores of Indians; It reflects the sentiments of the people of Indonesia and the historic, deep-rooted bonds between our two nations. I extend my heartfelt thanks to President Prabowo, the Government of Indonesia, and the people here.’ Modi also thanked Indonesia for the warm welcome upon his arrival to Jakarta.
During this visit, PM Modi will interact with the Indian diaspora in Indonesia and visit the Prambanan Temple complex at Yogyakarta with President Prabowo, which is another remarkable testament to the close cultural ties between the two countries. PM Modi’s visit to Indonesia is also expected to give a fresh push to bilateral ties, particularly in the defence sector, with the BrahMos missile deal likely to witness significant progress.
‘The Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna’ is Indonesia’s highest order awarded to both civilians and the military for their merits to the republic and the people. It was officially instituted in 1959. The award is given to individuals who have rendered exceptional service to the unity, continuity and prosperity of the Republic of Indonesia.
