The accused has been identified as Avinash Narne. A software development engineer from Telangana working in the US. After months of investigation, the investigators allege that it was a pre-planned murder and Narne was in a secret relationship with his girlfriend in India. The victim has been identified as Rajita Sabineni, the 27-year-old wife of Avinash Narne. She was found dead in her Washington apartment in October 2025. Avinash and Rajita had been married for six months.

During the investigation, officials also found Sabineni’s text messages to Narne, in which she complained multiple times about drinks that he made for her ‘tasting bitter’. To avoid suspicion, Narne crafted another story to the police, saying that he was not at home and had gone out for some work. His wife locked herself in the bathroom. But the post-mortem revealed that Rajita died of asphyxia due to strangulation. In such a case, the death was considered murder. Police have found that the accused had sent photos of his wife’s dead body to his girlfriend in India.
