Former Emir Of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Passes Away At 74: Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar has passed away on Sunday morning. He was 74 years old. Qatar’s official news agency, Qatar News Agency, confirmed his death. However, the official information about the cause of death has not been given yet.
Amiri Diwan of Qatar issued an official statement and said that while accepting the decision of Allah, we report the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani with deep sorrow. May Allah grant him paradise.
Sheikh Hamad ruled Qatar from 1995 until 2013. A period marked by rapid economic growth, infrastructure expansion and a growing international profile for the energy rich nation. Among major milestones during his tenure were the adoption of Qatar’s first permanent constitution in 2004 and the introduction of municipal elections. In 2013 he stepped down from power and transferred leadership to his son Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad AI Thani. Who was 33 at that time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed condolences on the passing of Qatar’s Father Amir, describing him as a visionary leader and a ‘close friend of India’. We also remember him as a true friend whom I had the honour of meeting during my last visit to Qatar in February 2024, said Modi.
