Ravneet Singh Bittu resigns as Union Minister: Ravneet Singh Bittu, who was Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Railways and Food Processing Industries, has resigned from his post. The President has accepted his resignation. Bittu hails from Punjab, and his resignation is considered politically significant in view of the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
Ravneet Singh Bittu is likely to contest the assembly election in Punjab next year. Bittu, a senior BJP Sikh leader, said he submitted his resignation on June 21 when his Rajya Sabha term ended. After spending nearly 17 years in Parliament, Bittu had expressed his desire to serve in the Punjab Assembly. He had said that despite losing the 2024 parliamentary elections, the BJP made him a minister. Bittu joined the BJP in 2024 and unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan for the remainder of the term of a seat vacated by Congress leader K C Venugopal.
In an ‘X’ post Bittu said,’ I express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji and Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for allowing me to serve the nation as Minister of State in the Government of India.’It has been an honour to serve the people of India, especially my beloved Punjab. I remain committed to the ideals of service, nationalism, and the vision of a Viksit Bharat under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. My journey of public service continues with renewed dedication,’ he said.
