Thattanchavady assembly constituency recorded a turnout of 80.81 per cent, with 21,756 of its 26,921 voters exercising their franchise
AINRC’s Ashok Anand wins Thattanchavady seat by 8,482 votes: All India NR Congress (AINRC) candidate Ashok Anand won the Thattanchavady Assembly bypoll in Puducherry. He defeated Congress candidate E. Vinayagam by 8,482 votes. Anand secured 13,358 votes against Vinayagam’s 4,876. DMK candidate K Sethuselvam came third with 2,664 votes. Communist Party of India candidate A. M. Saleem secured 310 votes, while Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate S. Karthikumari polled 171 votes.
AINRC workers celebrated Anand’s victory by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets. The celebrations followed the party’s success in retaining a constituency previously led by Chief Minister N Rangaswamy.
The constituency recorded a turnout of 80.81 per cent, with 21,756 of its 26,921 voters exercising their franchise. The electorate comprised 12,575 men, 14,341 women and five transgender voters, of whom 10,056 men, 11,695 women and all five transgender voters cast their ballots. The turnout was 6.39 percentage points lower than the 87.2 per cent recorded in the 2026 Assembly election.

Polling in Thattanchavady was held on October 6, while counting took place on October 9, 2026. In Puducherry, the outcome offered an early electoral test for the NDA government after the Assembly elections earlier this year.
