BJP races ahead in Nandigram, Rejinagar, Nagaon; TVK leads in Tamil Nadu

BJP races ahead in Nandigram, Rejinagar, Nagaon; TVK leads in Tamil Nadu: Vote counting for the bypolls to five Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry, along with the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam, is underway. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strengthened its lead in the West Bengal bypolls, according to the latest figures from the Election Commission of India (ECI)

In the Nandigram bypoll, BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath is leading by a margin of 1,02,712 votes. Congress candidate Milan Pradhan and Communist Party of India(CPI) Shanti Gopal Giri are trailing with 21, 905 a nd 3, 951 votes respectively.

The BJP is also maintaining a strong lead in Rejinagar, where its candidate Shankharavh Sarkar has received 35,896 votes. Congress candidate Abdullahil Kafi is trailing with 2,180 votes, giving Sarkar a lead of over 23,000 votes over the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, according to the latest figures.

In Tamil Nadu, CM Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidates are leading in both Dharapuram and Madurantakam, as per the latest round-wise counting figures. TVK candidate K. Maragatham Kumaravel was leading in Madurantakam by 8,160 votes, securing 23, 884 votes, after the 6th round of counting. While, P. Satyabhama was leading by 6, 420 votes, securing 34, 987 votes, after the 12th round of counting.

In Assam’s Nagaon, BJP’s Devasish Sharma has crossed the two-lakh mark in the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll in Assam, securing 2,03,904 votes and establishing a lead of 81,861 votes over his nearest rival. All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal is in second place with 1,22,043 votes, according to the latest figures.

The bypolls for one Lok Sabha seat in Assam and five assembly seats in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry were held on October 6.
