Aadhaar authentication mandatory for subsidized LPG refills from Oct 1: Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) mandatory to book subsidized cylinder refills. As of September 19, 2026, 89.9%(27.43 crore) of active domestic LPG consumers have completed their biometric authentication. Consumers who have completed the process do not need to authenticate again said the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on Saturday.
According to an official statement, domestic LPG consumers who have not yet completed their BAA will have to complete the process to book subsidized cylinder refills at the regulated price from October 1, 2026. Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas said, the decision is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches eligible households while preventing diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use.
The government said linking LPG connections with Aadhaar-authenticated consumers would help eliminate duplicate and ineligible connections and improve the targeting of subsidies. However, consumers who have not completed BBA will not be stopped from receiving LPG cylinders. They will have to pay the prevailing market price and will not receive the subsidy.
Consumers can complete BAA through several options by using a mobile application operated by the delivery personnel at LPG distributor showrooms or through the mobile applications of oil marketing companies, the government said. Moreover, Indane customers can use IndianOil ONE, Bharatgas consumers can access HelloBPCL, while HP Gas users can complete the process through HP PAY.
Consumers who do not wish to complete BAA will have to record their choice through their oil marketing company’s digital platforms, including web portals, mobile applications, WhatsApp chatbots, IVRS systems or other available channels. They will be supplied 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders, subject to local availability.
The government also noted that the implicit subsidy on a 14.2-kg domestic cylinder stood at around Rs 210 in September 2026. Consumers can contact toll-free helpline at 1800-2333-555 for any LPG related services.
