Ajit Pawar Plane Crash Case: DGCA Bans Four Jets of VSR Ventures: India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has taken strict action against M/s VSR Ventures Private Limited following the tragic Learjet 45 crash in Baramati on January 28, 2026.
After conducting a special safety audit between February 4 and 16, the DGCA ordered the immediate grounding of the company’s four Learjet 40/45 aircraft. The move comes in the wake of the devastating crash that claimed five lives, including former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
The aircraft grounded by the regulator bear registration numbers VT-VRA, VT-VRS, VT-VRV, and VT-TRI. According to the DGCA, these aircraft will remain grounded until they are restored to continued airworthiness standards and fully comply with safety norms.
Serious Safety Lapses Found
In a press note, the DGCA stated that a multi-disciplinary audit team identified several serious deficiencies in compliance with established regulations. The inspection covered critical areas such as airworthiness, flight safety, flight operations, and maintenance procedures.
The audit reportedly uncovered non-compliance with required procedures, lapses in maintenance practices, and shortcomings in operational safety standards. These findings prompted the regulator to act swiftly to prevent potential future incidents.
DGCA Issues Strict Directions
The aviation watchdog has issued a Deficiency Reporting Form to the company and directed it to submit a detailed Root Cause Analysis report. Further regulatory action will depend on the findings and corrective measures proposed by the company.
Officials emphasized that there will be zero tolerance for any compromise on aviation safety standards. The action signals a firm stance by the DGCA to ensure accountability and reinforce passenger and operational safety across the sector.
The February audit was led by Deputy Director General RK Anand, who oversaw a comprehensive review of the company’s operational framework. The findings are expected to play a crucial role in determining the company’s responsibility and shaping future regulatory decisions.
