Amarnath Yatra Begins: PM outlines 5 resolutions for devotees: The annual Amarnath Yatra began early on Friday. The 57-day yatra will continue until August 28, with stringent security arrangements in place to ensure its smooth conduct.
The pilgrimage started early in the morning along the two routes to the shrine — the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam track and the 14-km Baltal track — amid intermittent rain. The cave shrine is situated at 3,880 metre height in the south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said. The shrine houses a naturally formed ice lingam. Devotees affectionately call the ice lingam Baba Barfani(Lord of Ice). Batches of pilgrims, including men, women and sadhus, left the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. And the Baltal base camp in the Sonamarg area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district at first light, added officials.
The chants of ‘bum bum bole’ filled the air as the batches were flagged off from the base camps by the respective deputy commissioners and SSPs, they said. On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of over 4,809 pilgrims from the yatra base camp at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu.
Keeping in mind the importance of this journey, now PM Narendra Modi has written a letter to Amarnath pilgrims and asked them to take 5 resolutions.
First – Let us follow the rules of cleanliness during the Amarnath Yatra and do our part to maintain cleanliness throughout the Yatra route.
Second – We will strictly obey all orders of the administration, traffic rules and safety instructions. Be especially careful of slippery and cold due to rain during the journey.
Third – We use at least 10 percent of travel expenses to buy local products in the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’. This will also strengthen the livelihood of the families and youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Fourth – Let us present a sapling to our brother or sister on the concluding day of the Baba Amarnath Yatra, i.e. Rakshabandhan, and carry forward the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
Fifth – We shall perform our duties faithfully throughout the year with the spirit of Rashtra Pratham and contribute actively to building a developed India.
