BMC urges fuel firms to exempt their fleet from fuel rationing: Fearing fuel rationing could hit sanitation services, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation(BMC) has urged oil marketing companies and the Odisha government to exempt it from the Centre’s fuel rationing guidelines. The civic body warned that the Centre’s 200-litre daily fuel limit under austerity measures is inadequate. It requires nearly 2000 litres every day to maintain essential services. This could shrink its operations t0 10% fears BMC.
In a letter to the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, BMC said fuel shortages could particularly impact the ongoing bio-mining project at Bhuasuni, where large quantities of legacy waste are being processed using heavy machinery.
According to the civic body, the agency engaged for the bio-mining project requires around 3,000 litres of fuel every week to operate heavy equipment. BMC Additional Commissioner Kailash Chandra Dash, who oversees the civic body’s vehicle fleet, said the corporation has already approached multiple oil companies regarding the issue. But the y have expressed their inability to supply fuel beyond 200 litres per day.
According to BMC, the civic body spends approximately ₹2 lakh per day on fuel to support essential municipal operations. Authorities have urged the state government to intervene and ensure adequate fuel allocation for critical public services.
