Diljit faces criticism over a lyric in Aroma song. Queer community dissatisfied.
Diljit Dosanjh’s Aroma song faces blacklash: Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh once again tangled with fresh controversy. He is facing criticism over a lyric in his `Aroma Song’ which was released a month ago. This song which did not sit well with the queer community.
On 1 June, the first day of Pride Month, several members of the queer community called out Dosanjh for using “chakka,” a derogatory term for a transgender person.
Social media users said that it appears to demean and marginalise the queer community. Weeks after the song’s release, several people confessed that they had long been unaware of the lyrics’ meaning. It was only recently, after translating the song, that they discovered its actual message.
Aroma was released on April 23. The track is a collaboration with Diljit, Raj Ranjodh and music producer Tru- Skool.
