ECI Says 68 Lakh Cyber Attacks Targeted Election Platforms During Vote Counting
Election Commission Foils 68 Lakh Cyber Attacks During Vote Counting for Five State Elections: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday revealed that more than 68 lakh cyber attacks were launched from India and abroad targeting its major election platforms during the counting of votes for the five Assembly elections on May 4. According to the Commission, the attacks primarily targeted the election results portal and other critical digital systems while counting was underway in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry.
The ECI stated that its advanced cyber security framework under the ECINET platform successfully prevented all malicious attempts, ensuring uninterrupted functioning of election-related services. The Commission highlighted that ECINET played a crucial role in managing electoral operations through real-time monitoring, quick reporting, and improved transparency throughout the election process. The digital platform has become a key component in handling large-scale election activities efficiently.
Since its official launch in January, the ECINET app has witnessed massive public engagement, crossing 100 million downloads. A beta version of the platform had earlier been tested during the Bihar Assembly elections in November 2025. The Commission further disclosed that ECINET handled over 983 million hits during polling days on April 9, 23, and 29, while on counting day alone, the system recorded an average of 30 million hits per minute, showcasing the enormous digital traffic managed during the elections.
