Former Olympian Randhir Singh Passes Away: Former Indian shooter and Olympian Randhir Singh has passed away at the age of 79. He was an Arjuna Award winner and served in several important roles in Indian and Asian sports organisations. Randhir Singh was the Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) from 1987 to 2012 and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 2001 to 2014.
A native of Patiala, Punjab, Randhir Singh came from a sports family and represented India in five Olympic Games. In 2024, he became the first Indian to be elected President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). However, he later stepped down due to health issues.
Randhir Singh had been unwell for several days before his death. Sports officials and athletes have expressed deep sorrow over his passing. He is remembered for his major contribution to shooting sports and the Olympic movement in India. One of his biggest achievements was winning a gold medal in the Trap event at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok.
