Google CEO Sundar Pichai Made A Big Announcement : Google CEO Sundar Pichai made a major announcement at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Sundar Pichai said that it is wonderful to return to India every time because it is astonishing to see the pace of progress. In the presence of PM Modi and other prominent personalities, Sundar Pichai also shared memories of his student days. He said that he used to travel from Chennai to IIT Kharagpur by Coromandel Express and would pass through Visakhapatnam on the way. At that time, it was a quiet coastal town which had a lot of potential but development was very limited.
Sundar Pichai plans big investments in India
Reminiscing, Sundar Pichai said that Visakhapatnam is becoming a global AI hub. Google has established a full-stack AI hub in Visakhapatnam as part of a $15 billion investment. The company plans to invest ₹136,650 crore ($15 billion) in India over the next five years, from 2026 to 2030.
The hub will include large-scale compute and a subsea cable gateway, bringing jobs and AI capabilities to India. Once established, the AI hub will have gigawatt-scale computing capacity, marking the company’s largest investment in India to date. In October last year, the government stated that the facility will bring together gigawatt-scale data center capacity, large fiber networks, advanced AI infrastructure, and clean energy sources to support large-scale AI research, applications, and services.
The hub is designed to provide the high-performance, low-latency services businesses and developers need to build and scale AI solutions. It will also strengthen India’s digital backbone and connectivity through the International Subsea Cable Gateway.
Big statement by UN Secretary General
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said during the AI Summit that the future of AI cannot be left to the whims of a few billionaires. AI should belong to everyone, and we must replace hype and fear with shared evidence and global knowledge. He further stated that without investment, many countries will be left out of the AI race.
