Government Allows Revised MRP Printing on Old Stock Amid GST Changes, Deadline Extended to December 31
Government Allows Revised MRP Printing on Old Stock Amid GST Changes: In a significant relief to manufacturers affected by the new GST rules, the government announced on 9 September 2025 that companies can now revise and display updated prices on their unsold old stock. Businesses are allowed to use stickers, stamps, or online printing to reflect the new rates, eliminating the need to discard pre-GST goods. However, the earlier printed price must remain visible to allow consumers to compare old and new rates.
To ensure transparency, the government has mandated that companies must inform the public about the revised prices through advertisements in at least two newspapers. Additionally, the updated information must be shared with central and state departments as well as retailers. This move ensures that consumers are aware of price changes, and companies are held accountable for correct and fair pricing practices.
Originally, the deadline to revise prices was 22 September 2025, but due to logistical challenges and the volume of pre-produced goods, it has now been extended to 31 December 2025. This extension provides much-needed relief to businesses, especially ahead of the festive season, allowing them to clear old inventory without losses. The decision is expected to benefit both consumers and companies, keeping the market dynamic and prices competitive.
