Hirakud Dam closes 6 Sluice gates as water level declines: The Hirakud Dam authorities have closed six sluice gates while keeping a total of two sluice gates open. One on the left and one on the right. Reduced rainfall in the upper catchment areas has led to a decrease in water inflow into the Hirakud Dam. Keeping this in mind, the dam authorities have made changes to the flood water drainage system.
According to the latest update, the water level in Hirakud stood at 611.33 feet and is currently on a declining trend. The live storage in the reservoir is 1.482 million acre-feet, which is 38 per cent of its capacity.
