Odisha Celebrates Raja Festival with Great Joy: Today marks the beginning of the famous Raja Festival in Odisha. The festival brings a joyful and festive atmosphere across villages and towns. People welcome this special time with happiness, music, and traditional customs.
Raja Festival is mainly celebrated by girls and women. On this day, girls decorate themselves with mehendi on their hands, alta on their feet, and a tikili on their forehead. They wear new clothes and enjoy the celebrations by visiting friends and relatives. The whole environment becomes colourful and full of energy.
The Raja Festival is celebrated for three days. The first day is called Paheli Raja, the second day is Raja Sankranti, and the third day is known as Bhumi Dahan. On the fourth day, the festival ends with Basi Raja or Basmati Sannava. Each day has its own importance and traditional activities.
During these days, people enjoy special foods like poda pitha and pana, which are prepared in almost every household. Girls enjoy swings, dance, and traditional songs known as Raja geet. The festival is a time of joy, relaxation, and togetherness.
Raja is also linked with farming traditions. It is believed that Mother Earth goes through a resting period during these days. So, farmers do not work in the fields and spend time with their families. After the festival ends, they begin farming activities again with renewed energy.
