IMD forecasts heavy rainfall, yellow warning for 15 districts: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued rain, thunderstorms and lightning warning for several districts in Odisha. With monsoon activity intensifying, residents are encouraged to remain prepared for sudden weather changes and follow safety guidelines to avoid lightning-related incidents.
According to the IMD, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput districts are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph at one or two places. Heavy rainfall is also likely in some areas of these districts. The weather department has also issued a yellow warning for Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack and Jajpur districts. These districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph during the day. Rainfall activity is expected to continue across several parts of the state under the influence of the active monsoon system.
IMD has urged people to avoid going into open areas during thunderstorms. Residents have been advised not to take shelter under trees during lightning activity and to stay indoors whenever possible.The weather department has also warned people not to engaged in farming, fishing and other outdoor activities to remain alert and follow weather updates issued by local authorities.
