Asian Games 2026: India Wins 85 Medals, Finishes Fourth

India Bags 85 Medals at Asian Games 2026, Women Lead Gold Rush: The 2026 Asian Games ended on October 4, with India finishing fourth in the medal tally with 85 medals, 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The Games were held in Japan from September 19 to October 4.

India performed strongly in athletics, while archery contributed the highest number of gold medals. Women athletes played a major role, winning 14 of India’s 21 gold medals.

Kabaddi and Cricket Win Gold: The Indian women’s kabaddi team successfully defended its title by beating Iran 37–34 in the final. The women’s cricket team also won gold for the second straight time after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs.

Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod made headlines by defeating South Korean world champion Yejin Oh and winning two gold medals.

Neeru Dhandha and Pranavi Shine: Shooter Neeru Dhandha won two gold medals and three medals overall. She also carried the Indian flag at the closing ceremony.

India also won its first Asian Games golf gold in 24 years. Pranavi became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games golf gold medal.

Hockey and Boxing Bring More Gold: The Indian women’s hockey team ended a 44-year wait for Asian Games gold by defeating China 1–0 in the final. Boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Parveen Hooda also won gold medals.

Women Athletes Make a Strong Impact: Indian women athletes won 47 medals overall, including 38 in women’s events and nine in mixed events. Male athletes won 38 medals.
