Sindhu won the Syed Modi International Trophy in December 2024 before the Japan Open. Since then, Sindhu was not getting success in any big tournament. This Japan Open win is her biggest title win after winning the World Championship title in 2019.

Sindhu was initially trailing against Yamaguchi in the final of the Japan Open in Tokyo, but the Indian star made a strong comeback to take the first game 21-17. After winning the first game, Sindhu gave no chance to Yamaguchi in the second game and won the title 21-7. This was Sindhu’s 14th win against Yamaguchi. At the same time, Yamaguchi has won 16 matches. Earlier, Sindhu made a strong performance in the semi-finals by defeating the injured Chen Yufei and made it to the finals.
