IMD Warns of Thunderstorms, Hail and Strong Winds in Odisha
Kalabaisakhi to Bring Heavy Rain and Storms Across Odisha: The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across Odisha over the next week due to the influence of Kalabaisakhi.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many areas, with chances of hailstorms, lightning, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 30–50 kmph. A cyclonic circulation is also likely to form over South Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha around April 1, further intensifying weather activity.
Cyclonic Circulation to Intensify Weather in Odisha
Northern districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Sundargarh are likely to witness thunderstorms and hail.
While night temperatures may remain slightly above normal until April 1, day temperatures are expected to rise by 3–5°C between April 2 and 8 across both coastal and interior regions. Recent rainfall has already been recorded in several areas, with high temperatures reported in places like Jharsuguda, Hirakud, Titilagarh, Sambalpur, and Bhawanipatna.
