Keralam govt orders vigilance probe against CEC Gyanesh Kumar: The Keralam government orders vigilance enquiry against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar into a 2006 suicide case. The development comes amid protests by the Congress and other opposition parties against Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across India.  

Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has ordered an investigation into the case involving Chief Election Commissioner Dyanesh Kumar. The case relates to allegations of irregularities during his tenure as secretary of the state’s Public Works Department (PWD) in 2006.

Chennithala has directed the Director of Vigilance to conduct a thorough investigation into all allegations related to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and take appropriate action based on the results of the investigation.

Gyanesh Kumar is a Kerala-cadre IAS officer who headed various departments in the state before moving to central ministries.

The case relates to the suicide of Malaysian civil engineer Lee, who was associated with the PATI-BEL consortium involved in the upgradation of MC Road under the Keralam State Transport Project. The minister claimed that the engineer’s suicide note mentioned the name of Gyanesh Kumar.
