Delhi Launches Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to Secure Girls’ Higher Education and Financial Future
Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana Benefits: Who Can Apply and How: In a significant step toward empowering young girls, the Government of Delhi has launched the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, a scheme designed to ensure that financial hardship never forces a girl to drop out of school or college.
The initiative is an expanded and improved version of the earlier Ladli Yojana, offering greater financial assistance and linking benefits directly to higher education. The goal is simple yet powerful — to help girls complete their graduation or diploma courses without financial stress.
Who Can Benefit?
The scheme is targeted at economically weaker families living in Delhi. Only those families whose annual income does not exceed ₹1.20 lakh are eligible. Additionally, the family must have been residing in Delhi for at least three years, and the daughter should have been born in Delhi.
A maximum of two daughters per family can benefit from the scheme. Registration can be done within one year of the girl’s birth or later during her schooling years.
Importantly, the scheme now covers daughters pursuing graduation or diploma courses from any government or UGC-recognized institution across India. The maturity amount will be released only after the girl turns 21 and fulfills the educational criteria.
Financial Benefits
Under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, the government will deposit ₹56,000 in installments at various stages — from birth through different school classes. With accumulated interest, this amount is expected to exceed ₹1 lakh by the time the beneficiary turns 21.
Unlike the previous Ladli scheme, where funds could be withdrawn at 18, the new version ensures that financial support is directly tied to higher education, encouraging girls to complete their studies.
Required Documents
The application process will be fully digital. However, families must submit necessary documents, including:
- Income certificate
- Proof of three years’ residence in Delhi
- Daughter’s birth certificate
- Aadhaar card
- Aadhaar-linked bank account details
- School or college admission documents
Once the girl meets the eligibility criteria at the age of 21, the full maturity amount will be directly transferred to her Aadhaar-linked bank account.
