Mandaviya announces five member panel to revive hockey India: The Hockey India League is set to make a comeback. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday asked Hockey India and Hockey India League(HIL) franchise owners to prepare a comprehensive roadmap and set up to ensure the financial viability and sustainability of the league.
Mansukh Mandaviya held a meeting with Hockey India officials and representatives of HIL franchises and apprised them of the concerns regarding the tournament. He said that a five-member committee should be constituted to prepare a comprehensive plan to revive the Hockey India League. The committee will consist of two representatives each from Hockey India and the franchises and a senior official from the Sports Ministry.
The minister has directed all stakeholders to work on the governance model, financial model and structure of the league on a priority basis. The committee has been asked to submit its report to the ministry in a time-bound manner. HIL was revived last year after a seven-year gap, but since then there have been concerns over its financial stability and franchisee participation, making its long-term future uncertain.
