Nepal Flood: Death toll rises 469, rescue operation intensifies: Devastating flash floods in Nepal have reportedly claimed 469 lives, while over 1400 people are still missing. Relief and rescue operations are underway on a war footing.
The flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26. The high resolution satellite images collected by Vantor on August 27 shows devastated Himalayan Border Region. The collapsed glacier caused the huge flood wave which swept through houses and roads causing extensive damage to life and property. Lack of adequate cold storage (mortuary) has also increased the challenge of managing dead bodies. The search for the missing bodies continues, while rescue and recovery operations have become increasingly challenging as the bodies have drifted over a wide area. On the other hand, where was the body found? In what condition? What are the identification marks on the body? All these details should be recorded systematically.
Around 13, 295 Nepal Police personnel, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force were deployed in flood hit areas. Along with these emergency teams, supported by military and private helicopters have so far rescued over 3000 stranded individuals.
As per latest report 84 Indian Nationals have been rescued so far. China paused rescue operation on Friday citing high risk of renewed flooding in Tibet. All rescue teams have been ordered to remain on standby and wait for further instructions.
