Nuakhai ‘Lagna’ Finalized, Nabanna Offering On September 15: The auspicious ‘Lagna’ for Nuakhai 2026 has been announced. The auspicious timing for the prominent harvest festival of western Odisha has been officially finalised by the Raj Purohit for Balangir district.
The Patna Maharaja’s Sailashree Palace declared that the festival will be observed on September 15, with the ‘Amruta Bela’ fixed between 9.36 am and 10.10 am. The Nuakhai Lagna has been determined after considering the Rashi and Nakshatra of Maa Patneswari, Maa Samaleswari and the King of Patana in Balangir. During the auspicious period, devotees will offer the season’s first harvest, or ‘Nabanna’, to their presiding deity before consuming the newly harvested rice with their families.
Nuakhai is one of the most important festivals in western Odisha and is celebrated to welcome the new harvest. The festival symbolises gratitude to nature and the farming community for a successful agricultural season and reflects the region’s rich cultural and agrarian heritage.
