Panchayat imposes Rs 1 lakh fine for raping a minor, accused arrested: A shameful decision by the village panchayat has left everyone stunned. The village panchayat was trying to settle the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl by imposing a Rs 1 lakh fine on the accused. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the accused.
According to the police, the incident occurred in the Gulma district of Jharkhand. The accused was identified as Sunil Lohra. He allegedly visited the victims house around 4 pm on Saturday. The child was with her mother at home when Lohra reportedly offered to look after the toddler so that she could finish her work. Lohra allegedly took the child into a room and sexually assaulted her. The mother rushed inside after hearing the girl cry and found her bleeding. The child was soon rushed to nearest hospital. Instead of reporting the crime to the police, the matter was allegedly taken before a village panchayat.
The panchayat called a meeting on Sunday. Where they decided to impose a Rs 1 lakh fine on the accused in an attempt to settle the matter within the village. Following the decision of panchayat the accused paid Rs 20, 000 on the spot. While, remaining 80, 000 should be paid within a week directed panchayat. The matter came to light after a villager secretly informed the police. Acting on the information, a police team reached the village on Sunday.
The panchayat members chicken and liquor party of 20 thousand rupees was underway when the police arrived. Officials arrested the accused while he was attending the celebration.
Due to the pressure of the village, the case was not reaching the police station. After which the Ghaghra police went to the village and registered a case based on the statement of the mother of the victim.
