Second Fuel Price Hike This Week Pushes Petrol, Diesel Higher
Petrol and Diesel Rates Increased Again Amid Rising Crude Costs: Fuel prices have increased once again across the country, giving another shock to the common people. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) today raised the prices of petrol and diesel by nearly ₹0.90 per litre. Earlier, on May 15, fuel prices had already been increased by ₹3 per litre. With this latest revision, petrol and diesel prices have gone up by a total of ₹3.90 per litre within just five days.
According to reports, oil companies were facing heavy daily losses due to the continuous rise in crude oil prices in the international market. Crude oil prices have crossed $100 per barrel because of ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which has affected global supply. For many days, oil companies absorbed the extra cost themselves, but now they have started passing the burden on to consumers.
After the latest hike, fuel prices in the four major metro cities have increased further. In Delhi, petrol now costs ₹98.64 per litre, while diesel is priced at ₹91.58 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol has reached ₹107.59 per litre and diesel ₹94.08 per litre. In Kolkata, petrol is now being sold at ₹109.70 per litre, while diesel costs ₹96.07 per litre. Meanwhile, in Chennai, petrol prices have risen to ₹104.49 per litre and diesel to ₹96.11 per litre.
