Plastic notes soon to introduce in India : RBI is preparing to introduce polymer currency(plastic notes) in India, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced. Malhotra said that this proposal is currently in the preliminary stage and no final decision has been taken on it.
According to experts, polymer notes can last at least two to five times longer than normal paper notes. This saves money on printing new notes and replacing old notes. The first plastic notes in the world were introduced in Australia. After this, countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Romania also adopted it.
