SC quashes all FIRs against Samay Raina: Stand-up comedian Samay Raina has received huge relief from the Supreme Court on Friday. All FIRs regarding remarks made about disabled persons during the India Got Latent show have been quashed.
The Supreme Court closed all cases and proceedings against Samay and four others over alleged insensitive comments about persons with disabilities during India Got Latent show. Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar alias Sonali Aditya Desai and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar. FIRs were registered against the accused in different parts of the country following the statements made by Samay during the show. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi and V. The bench of Mohana gave this order.
The court praised the efforts of Samay, Goyal, Ghai, Thakkar and Tanwar in organizing shows for disabled people. ‘When there is genuine effort, good results are sure to come. They are very promising youngsters. If they start working in the right direction, the results will also be good,’ Bench said.
However, the court will continue to hear the case to consider suggestions from people with disabilities on ways to better monitor such content. It will also issue appropriate directions on broader issues related to the matter.
