Sunetra Pawar Creates History, Takes Oath As Maharashtra’s First Woman Deputy Chief Minister : Sunetra Pawar, wife of late Ajit Pawar, who resigned from the Rajya Sabha MP post on Saturday, took oath as the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. She succeeds her husband and former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who tragically died in a plane crash two days ago. Governor Acharya Debbarat administered the oath of office and secrecy to her at a function held at the Lok Bhawan in Mumbai. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel among other prominent leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony. Sunetra Pawar was elected the leader of the NCP legislative party on Saturday afternoon. The decision was taken at a crucial meeting held at the Vidhan Bhawan complex in south Mumbai. Senior leader Dilip Walse Patil proposed her name, which was seconded by Chhagan Bhujbal.

Three days after Ajit Pawar’s sudden death, his wife Sunetra has been given an important responsibility. The meeting was held in the same office in the Assembly building where Ajit Pawar once sat. At the beginning of the meeting, Sunetra Pawar offered floral tributes to the photo of her late husband. His younger son Jai Pawar was also present. The atmosphere in the meeting was solemn and many ministers and MLAs could not hold back their tears.
