Sushmita Dev Resigns from Rajya Sabha, Leaves TMC

Sushmita Dev Quits TMC, Resigns from Rajya Sabha Seat: Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) has suffered another setback in West Bengal politics. Sushmita Dev, who joined TMC from Congress, has resigned from the Rajya Sabha and also quit the party. She was considered close to Mamata Banerjee.

Reports suggest she recently met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, leading to speculation that she may join the BJP and could be nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Assam.

Sushmita Dev was elected as an MP from Silchar in 2014 on a Congress ticket. She later joined TMC in 2021 and was sent to the Rajya Sabha by Mamata Banerjee soon after.

This comes amid reports of internal issues in TMC, with some leaders leaving or expressing dissatisfaction after the party’s election defeat in Bengal. Earlier, another TMC Rajya Sabha MP, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, also resigned. With these resignations, TMC now has 11 Rajya Sabha MPs, down from 13 earlier.
