Suvendu Adhikari to Take Oath as West Bengal’s First BJP Chief Minister Today: A historic political chapter is set to unfold in Kolkata on today Saturday, Baishakh 25th, coinciding with the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore (as the Bengali Calendar suggests). At 11 a.m., BJP Legislature Party leader Suvendu Adhikari will take oath as the first Chief Minister from the BJP in West Bengal. The grand swearing-in ceremony will be held at the historic Brigade Parade Ground and is expected to showcase Bengali culture and heritage through various ceremonial arrangements.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with chief ministers from 21 BJP and NDA-ruled states, are expected to attend the event. BJP MPs, MLAs, senior leaders, and lakhs of party supporters are also likely to gather at Brigade Parade Ground, making it one of the largest political ceremonies in the state’s recent history. The swearing-in marks the first time the BJP has formed a government in West Bengal, adding major political significance to the occasion.
To ensure security, Kolkata Police has implemented extensive arrangements across the city. The Brigade Parade Ground has been divided into nearly 35 sectors, each supervised by IPS-rank officers, while Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda will oversee the entire security operation. Drone surveillance, monitoring from nearby high-rise buildings, and strict traffic regulations will remain in force throughout Saturday. Freight vehicle movement will be restricted from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m., while emergency and essential service vehicles will remain exempt from the restrictions.
