TATA IPL 2026, Match 37: GT Defeats CSK by 8 Wickets: Gujarat Titans (GT) registered an impressive 8-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first match of the Sunday double-header at Chepauk, thanks to a brilliant all-round performance. GT’s chase of 159 was powered by a stellar knock of 87 runs off 46 balls by Sai Sudharsan, while Shubman Gill (33 off 23 balls) and Jos Buttler (39* off 30 balls) contributed to their team’s dominant win, achieving the target in just 16.4 overs. This win marked their fourth of the season, as they moved up to fifth in the points table.
Earlier, CSK posted a modest total of 158/7, with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fighting unbeaten 74 leading the charge. The pitch, offering early assistance to fast bowlers and later some grip for spinners, made it challenging for the CSK batting line-up. However, despite Gaikwad’s valiant knock, CSK struggled to build partnerships. Kagiso Rabada was the star with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 25 runs in his 4 overs, while Arshad Khan, Manav Sudhar, and Siraj each took a wicket, keeping CSK under pressure throughout their innings.
GT’s bowlers, especially Rabada, dominated the CSK top order during the powerplay, reducing them to 25/2 by the 4th over. Dewald Brevis, struggling to find form, was dismissed for just 2 runs off 9 balls, and Shivam Dube also failed to make an impact. CSK’s innings never gained momentum, and despite Gaikwad’s six fours and four sixes, they finished with a below-par total. GT chased down the target with 20 balls to spare, marking their second-biggest win over CSK at Chepauk.
