Tikhiri sarpanch Chameli Ojha resigns from BJP: Chameli Ojha, Tikhiri sarpanch of Kendrapada district, has resigned from the primary membership of the BJP. Expressing dissatisfaction over party leadership Chameli announced her resignation on July 18, 2026.

Chameli Ojha announced her resignation during an ongoing protest at Gandhi Marg after 6 days of protest and a hunger strike. She expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of her grievances and levelled allegations against the party in her resignation letter.

‘A party that cannot respect a woman and ensure justice has no meaning for me to continue,’ Ojha said, explaining her decision to quit. She had joined the BJP in 2024. She stated she had played an active role in strengthening the party’s outreach and campaign efforts at the grassroots level. However, despite facing what she described as ‘injustice’ no senior party leader came forward to support her.

Earlier, Ojha had launched an indefinite hunger strike on July 13, 2026, at Lower PMG, demanding administrative and legal action against Mahakalapada Block Development Officer Rabinarayan Acharya and Inspector-in-Charge Manas Mallick over allegations of harassment, misconduct, and physical assault.
