The Lok Sabha on Wednesday suspended Kalyan Banerjee for the rest of the monsoon session. He was accused of using derogatory language against women members during a heated debate with NCPI members in the House.
The 69-year-old leader had a heated exchange with some of his former party colleagues and NCPI MPs in the Lok Sabha chamber after the House was adjourned following an uproar by the Opposition. NCPI MP Mithali Bagh, Shatabdi Rai and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar were involved in this controversy. The reason behind the dispute was not clear. However, some MPs of the opposition intervened and tried to pacify the two sides. After this Kalyan Banerjee left the house.
TDP’s KP Krishna Prasad Tenneti, who was presiding over the proceedings, said that the Speaker had received a written complaint against Kalyan Banerjee for inappropriate behavior towards women MPs and using inappropriate language.
