In a shocking incident a Telengana woman was allegedly robbed and was pushed into a well by a gambling addicted man. Police has arrested the accused on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Tangrala Laxmi(55) of Karimnagar, Telangana. On July 1, she was waiting for work at the labor base. The accused approached her on the pretext of giving her work on his farm. The accused first took her on his Rapido bike and then on his motorcycle to a deserted place. There, he allegedly robbed the woman of her silver and gold, along with cash. The accused apprehended that his identity would be disclosed. So, after committing the theft, he pushed Laxmi to a deep agricultural well. The accused tried to cut the rope, with the intention of killing her, but she managed to hang on. She did not know how to swim. But managed to stay in the water and hang on to the second cable attached to the motor pipeline for almost 21 hours, fighting with death. The next morning, local farmers pulled her out safely and informed the police. The special investigation team of police arrested the accused with the help of technical evidence like Rapido booking records, CCTV footage, and mobile location. He was addicted to betting and online gambling and incurred losses of nearly 4 lakh rupees. After being pressured by loan app operators to repay borrowed money, he allegedly hatched a plan to commit theft, said police.
