People with physical disabilities often have to overcome additional hurdles in their everyday lives. Even routine tasks can demand extra effort, patience and determination. It is the responsibility of every able-bodied person to treat them with kindness, empathy and respect. Unfortunately, some people make their struggles even harder through their insensitive behaviour. A recent incident involving a specially abled Zomato delivery agent has left the internet angry.
Delivery Agent Makes It To Customer’s Door Despite Physical Challenges
The delivery executive took to Instagram to recount an upsetting experience during a delivery assignment. He claimed that a customer cancelled an order even after he had managed to climb two floors and reach their doorstep.
According to his account, he had informed the customer about his disability over the phone. Since the building did not have a lift, he explained that climbing the stairs was difficult and requested the customer to collect the parcel downstairs. However, the customer reportedly refused to do so.
Narrating the incident in an Instagram video, shared by an account identified as @Nihir_Rider, he said, “Ek order mila tha mujhe, main aaya leke, theek hai, customer ko call kar raha hun aur bola ki handicap hun main toh upar tak aa nahi sakta. Toh customer pata hai kya bole ki ab main 50 rupees ki Maggi ke liye tere liye neeche aaun? Aur lift bhi nahi hai, jaana hai mujhe second floor par. Chalo, koshish karte hain aur second floor tak customer ko unka order dete hain.”
Customer Cancels Order After He Reaches The Doorstep
Despite the difficulty, the delivery agent decided to make the climb and complete the delivery. The video showed him carefully making his way up the stairs with the parcel.
But his effort ended in disappointment. After reaching the customer’s floor, he discovered that the order had been cancelled. Expressing his disbelief, he said, “Main upar tak aaya order lekar unke gate par aur customer ne cancel kar diya order.”
He also displayed a screenshot of the cancelled order, highlighting that the cancellation happened after he had reached the customer’s doorstep.
Sharing the video, he wrote, “Customer ke ghar tak parcel leke gaya, customer ne order cancel kar diya.”
Internet Rallies Behind The Delivery Agent
The video has attracted widespread attention on social media, drawing millions of views and likes. Several users expressed anger over the customer’s alleged conduct, while others sent messages of encouragement to the delivery executive.
One user commented, “More power and love to you brother.”
Another wrote, “It just breaks my heart like how people can be so insensitive and prioritise monetary power over humanity. We never know the other side of the story but all we can do is understand and value people for their work, their efforts, their honesty and situations. I am really sorry sir that you have to go through all this.”
The incident has once again prompted conversations about empathy towards delivery workers and the need to respect the challenges faced by people with disabilities.
