10 tonnes of fake paneer seized in Pune: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration conducted a major raid and inspection operation in Pune’s Shukrawar Peth area on Friday. Approximately 10 tonnes of suspected fake paneer and around 5,000 kg of fake khoya has been seized.
The development came after the state’s crack down of food adulteration under FDA commissioner Tukaram Mundhe widened. According to the FDA report, this fake cheese was being prepared from palm oil. The supply chain of this paneer is suspected to have originated from Karnataka and was being being distributed on a large scale across Maharastra. The FDA has seized all the cheese and khoya, which will be destroyed.

The food department said that the estimated worth of seized paneer and khoya is being reported at 38 lakh rupees. Ahead of festive season the food department in Maharashtra is more vigilant.
