TVK MLAs Consider Mass Resignation Amid Possible DMK–AIADMK Government Formation
108 TVK MLAs Ready to Resign if DMK and AIADMK Form Government: Political uncertainty has intensified in Tamil Nadu after the assembly elections resulted in a hung verdict, leaving no party with a clear majority. The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 238-member assembly. However, the party still requires the support of at least 10 more MLAs to cross the majority mark of 118. TVK has already staked claim to form the government before the governor and is actively seeking support from smaller parties and independents.
The political atmosphere turned more dramatic after reports surfaced about possible talks between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). According to TVK sources, the party fears that rival camps are trying to prevent Vijay from becoming Chief Minister. In response, there are indications that all 108 TVK MLAs could resign if any alternative coalition attempts to form the government. The DMK has reportedly empowered M. K. Stalin to take emergency political decisions amid the rapidly changing scenario.
Meanwhile, TVK leaders have intensified outreach efforts to secure support from the Left parties and regional allies. Party leader CTR Kumar met leaders of the Communist Party of India, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, emphasizing Vijay’s commitment to coalition politics and power-sharing arrangements. Congress, which won five seats in the elections, has already extended support to TVK. Kumar also clarified that TVK has no plans to approach the NDA for support and argued that constitutional convention requires the governor to first invite the single largest party to form the government. With political negotiations continuing behind closed doors, Tamil Nadu remains on edge as the battle for power enters a crucial phase.
