Rajasthan Panchayat Bans Smartphones For Women In 15 Villages Of Jalore
Daughter-in-law banned from using camera phones. This decision taken by a panchayat in Jalore district of Rajasthan is now in controversy. The panchayat of Sundhamata Patti of Chaudhuri Samaj has decided to ban the use of smartphones with cameras for daughters-in-law and daughters-in-law of 15 villages . This rule will be implemented from January 26.
According to the panchayat’s decision, women will now be allowed to use only keypad phones instead of smartphones. They will also be barred from carrying mobile phones during weddings, social functions and when visiting neighbours’ houses. A video of the decision went viral, sparking controversy.
Where and which panchayat has taken this decision?
The decision was taken in a meeting held in Ghazipur village on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by 14th Patti President Sujanaram Chowdhury. Sujanaram said that Panch Himmataram read out the proposal. This proposal was given by Debram Karnol. After discussion, all the Panch agreed to it. This panchayat decision will be implemented in Ghazipura, Pawli, Kalda, Manojiyavas, Rajikawas, Datalawas, Rajpura, Kodi, Sidrodi, Aldi, Ropsi, Khandewal, Savidhar, Bhinmal and Khanpur villages of Jalore district.
Reason behind the decision
Sujanaram Chowdhury said that if necessary, school-going girls can use mobile phones inside the house. But they will not be allowed to take them out for any public or social program. Sujanaram also explained why the panchayat had to take this decision. He said that when women have mobile phones, children are using them more. This is having a negative impact on their eyes. Therefore, this decision was taken considering the need to control the use of mobile phones. However, after the video of this decision went viral, people are now opposing it.
