Devendra Mahto ended hunger strike after Jharkhand govt cancels exam: Student leader Devendra Mahto ended his hunger strike on Monday after the Jharkhand government cancelled the JSSC-CGL exam and TDPL recruitment processes. Mahto demanded a law protecting students against irregularities and fraud in the examination system. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk praised the Jharkhand government for accepting students’ demands.
After Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren’s announcement, state minister Dipika Pandey Singh, state health minister Irfan Ansari, MLA Jairam Mahto reached Sadar hospital in Ranchi late Monday night. They offered juice to devendra Mahto. ‘Today on the 16th day of the hunger strike I have ended my fast in a dignified manner. I am grateful that students concerns were taken seriously and our demands were met. Investigations into the alleged irregularities are underway,’ said Mahto.
Mahto also praised Dipika Pandey Singh, Irfan Ansari and MLA Jairam Mahto for their joint initiatives in resolving the issues. He also thanked CM Soren and urged stricter laws and reforms to monitor exams and prevent paper leaks.
