Anahat Singh becomes first Indian to win World Squash Junior Championship: India’s 18-year-old squash player Anahat Singh won the World Squash Junior Championship 2026 title. In the girls’ singles final played on Saturday, top seed Anahat defeated second seed Ruqya Salem of Egypt 11-3, 11-7, 11-9. Along with this, she became the first Indian player to become the Junior World Champion.
In the final match, Anahat played aggressively from the start. In the first game, he did not give his opponent any chance and easily took the lead. In the second game, Salem tried to make a comeback, but the Indian player kept their composure under pressure. The third game was a little tighter; however, Anahat scored brilliant points at crucial moments to win in straight games.
Earlier in 2005, Joshna Chinappa had reached the final of the Junior World Championship, but could not win the title. Anahat now gave India their first gold of the tournament. Anahat had said, ‘I have to do my best. I have played four times in the World Junior Championships and have lost in the quarter-finals and semi-finals before. My parents and coaches are very happy to reach the final, but the tournament is not over yet.’
