Asian Games 2026: India shines with silver in shooting: India made a strong start on the opening day at the Asian Games 2026. India won its first silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event. The trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Vidarsha Vinod and Sonam Maskar finished second with 1898 points.
In the team event, Sonam Maskar scored 634.1 points, Elavenil scored 633.5 points, and Bidarsha Vinod scored 630.4 points. With this success, Elavenil and Sonam also qualified for the individual finals of the 10m air rifle. In addition to Elavenil, Sonam Maskar has also qualified for the individual final. The Indian shooting team performed strongly from the start and secured a podium finish in the team event.

The 20th Asian Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya in Japan. A 16-day multi-sport event officially started on September 19 and will end on October4, 2026. India is representing 503 athletes (269 men and 234 women). These athletes are competing in 34 different sports including cricket, shooting, badminton, wushu, mixed martial arts, hockey, table tennis, kabaddi etc.
