Central Government Brings New Law : IPS Raj in the security forces. The central government has brought a new law. The central cabinet has approved an important bill CAPF General Administration Bill. This decision will further strengthen the process of appointing IPS officers in big posts of central security forces like CRPF, BSF, ITBP. According to the bill, IPS officers can come and work on deputation in big posts of DIG and IG level as before.
As per the current rules, 20% of the posts at the DIG level and 50% at the IG level are reserved for IPS officers. In 2025, the Supreme Court gave a landmark verdict that the security forces’ own officers should get more promotions and the number of IPS officers should be gradually reduced. The central government has brought this new bill to legally change that Supreme Court order. The government’s argument is that it will be easier to maintain coordination between different departments if IPS officers remain. The security forces’ own officers are opposing this. They say that the promotion of officers who have been working in the security forces for years is being hampered due to the arrival of IPS officers from outside and occupying senior positions.
